Martin Scorsese evidently doesn't like the increasing restrictions that Hollywood and its investors are imposing upon the industry. The director is saying it's getting harder to work on the larger productions because the movie studios are restricting his creativity.
Scorsese said: "I am finding that when there are very big budgets there is less risk that can be taken but I don't know how much longer that can hold out, with regard to what kind of movie they, the major studios, would like to make and the kind of film I'd like to make."
Directors like Scorsese are going to have to overall accept this reality. That creativity nonsense is a joke. When you come at it from the point of view of people investing their money in films for the purpose of making money, Scorsese represents what's wrong with Hollywood.
George Lucas understands the realities and is changing his strategy while remaining creative.
Hollywood knows that the attitude of people like Scorsese would bankrupt them in a short time. This doesn't mean that there won't be an occasional high-budget film made; just that they are going to go way down in quantity. Scorsese says he'll return to do pictures if the project and budget are right.
