
Some networks are starting to understand that not only is it essential to be online, but that when they go online and offer fans opportunities to give their input, they are tapping into potential goldmines.
Some sites, such as Grey's Anatomy's "Grey Matter," is considered an important source of information to take in for deciding where the direction of the show will go.
Ad Age reported when Allan Heinberg joined the writing team of ABC's hit series "Grey's Anatomy" this season, he began to post on the blog "Grey Matter." He said, "So, here's the thing: You people terrify me. You're passionate, you're insightful, you're bravely outspoken. You know 'Grey's Anatomy' better than anyone, except maybe Shonda Rhimes [the creator]. And I don't know if you realize this, but the way you write about the show, debate it, love and/or hate it carries an enormous amount of weight in the writers' room."

TV audiences are now wanting input into the sway of the show, and expect programs to be expressed across multiple platforms. It's something like a live and up-to-date behind the scenes part of a show. Those shows that want to develop long-term fans understand that they must interact with these new realities.
