Nickelodeon has launched a remix product for the most recent version of its broadband center, TurboNick 2.0, allowing access to a number of Nickelodeon video clips, audio and photos; and will include tools that help them to create different scenes with their favorite characters.
When the new content has been created, it can be emailed to friends, shared on friends' websites, or just left on Turbonick to be watched. The remix feature is Nickelodeons' primary step toward empowering kids to create and post their own videos on the site.
Stephen Youngwood, executive vp, Digital Media, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group said, “In keeping with our philosophy of putting kids first in everything we do, we are thrilled to provide these unparalleled features on TurboNick 2.0 that will empower kids to take charge of their Internet experience, TurboNick 2.0 not only provides a hub for our vast library of content, but allows kids to become
‘programmers’ and ‘creators’ in their own right."
It seems like what they're trying to do is make a YouTube-like atmosphere for the kids, while being more age-appropriate. If it's easy enough for the kids it should be a great success!
