Sony came in first for the eleventh time this season with its animated film "Open Season." This was Sony's first venture from their new in-house animation unit; it brought in an estimated $23 million. Evidently they will be a player in this space giving Pixar and Dreamworks a run for their money.
Ashton Kutcher, the donkey in "Open Season," also had success as a Coast Guard rookie in the 2nd place finisher for the weekend: The Guardian - also starring Kevin Costner. The Buena Vista film took in around $17.7 million.
Dropping to third for the weekend was Jackass: Number Two, bringing in another $14.4 million to bring its ten day total to $51.5 million. Not bad for a film that was produced for under $12 million.
