Joining a plethora of media companies selling full-length movies on AOL, Paramount is looking to increase their piece of the online action. Others that have already partnered with AOL are 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group.
AOL's download prices start at $9.99 and go up to $19.99. With the inclusion of Paramount, AOL has over 300 major studio's movies available for download.
With Amazon's announcement last month that they are now selling
downloadable videos, the field is getting crowded really fast. A problem we've talked about before here on bizofshowbiz.
The key to all of this really exploding is the ability to watch downloadable movies on TV screens - whether through direct transers or via a burned DVD; once that happens the market will be dynamite. Disney (DIS) and Apple (AAPL) are already doing a strong business in their partnership.
