Thomas Hesse, president of Global Digital Business at Sony BMG Music Entertainment has revealed that digital sales and service now account for almost 20 percent of the company's digital music division, according to itNews.
Hesse projects that sales will rise from around 50 percent to 60 percent in 2006; he added that it could explode once platforms are able to funtion interoperably.
Across international lines, percentage of revenues from the digital music division have Korea leading the way with 32 percent; Japan, 11 percent; Italy, 10 percent; United Kingdom, 8 percent; France, 5 percent; and Germany 4 percent.
The increase in sales has Sony BMG going into partnerships with social networking sites, mobile comanies and telecommunication firms.
This is making selling across various distribution channels and bringing all together more complex they must time all of it to work with artist appearances and CD releases. Evidently the it is worth it as sales are starting to make a big impact on the bottom line of BMG and other music providers.
