The first three 50 GB Blu-ray disc titles are about to be released by Sony. The movies will include Click, Black Hawk Down, and Talladega Nights.
The result will be not only high-definition video, but a number of special features included on one disc.
Click, the Adam Sandler film will be released first. According to Sony it will be the first picture to be taken from DVD with all its special features and put into high-definition for Blu-ray. Click will also include uncompressed pulse-code modulation (PCM) audio.
The second title released will be Black Hawk Down on November 14th. Unfortunately, Sony says that the added features will not be presented in high-definition. The movie itself will be the first to have "Blu-Wizard" technology. It enables a user to program the special features to play at specific times within the movie viewing.
The last of Sony's 50 GB Blu-ray movies for the year will be Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The features included with the movie will be "audio commentary, nine extended/deleted scenes, a gag reel, a couple bonus featurettes, and, not presented in HD, TV ad spots from Daytona 500 and NASCAR."
With Sony's announcement, other studios have jumped in and said they will be offering some titles soon. 20th Century Fox has said it will be releasing the Kingdom of Heaven on November 14th and Lionsgate said they will be releasing Descent sometime in December.
There has been no announcement of prices for the movies yet.
