Not to be outdone by Yahoo! (YHOO), MySpace (NWS.A) and TBS announced that they are going to hold a joint contest for stand-up comedy routines.
With YouTube offering its own contest for band-submitted videos, this is becoming a hot area for talented people to be discovered. Like we talked about recently, United Talent Agency is going online for the very same purpose.
What's great about this is it is a win/win situation for all concerned. It gives potential stars a platform to show their wares and see if there is
an audience out there for them. It allows Agencies and media companies to get quick, easy looks at what's out there without much expense at all. The Internet companies increase loyalty as people like the reality show type atmosphere and voting they've come to embrace.
Now the question that I'm waiting to see answered is if whether online channels like YouTube and MySpace start to sign up some of this talent themselves for exclusive online performances and online TV channels. Things would get really interesting at that time in the battle for the eyeballs and time of viewers.
