Starting in January, Turner Broadcasting (TWX) will launch a broadband comedy network that will bring together a Comedy Central feel with the social networking aspect of websites like YouTube and MySpace.
The new online network will offer comedy material from known and new comedians while empowering users to get involved by making their own profile pages and being able to share videos.
Drew Reifenberger, senior vice president and general manager of Super Deluxe, said concerning the 18-34-year-old demographic they're trying to reach: "They watch a lot of TV and movies and they're wildly social, we're just trying to feed that demand, but with quality, original pieces."
"This is professional, high-quality content, not kids dropping Mentos in a bottle," said John Buzzell, vp product development at Super Deluxe, and leader of the team that created the concept for the brand.
The majority of episodes and video content will be under five minutes long.
Turner plans on going beyond the web with this and offer the Super Deluxe channel across multiple platforms, including a cable video-on-demand channel, mobile devices, among other platforms.
