We are only in the early stages of what online video and eventually TV channels are going to become. Those who have been looking to find an audience for whatever it is that they want to offer, are going to find opportunities like they never have before; it's already begun to happen.
Independent bands, filmmakers, writers, illustrators or anyone that has creative desires and abilities are on the verge of finding those you are likeminded and want a part of it.
At this time people are using the YouTube, MySpace, Google Video (GOOG), Yahoo! Video (YHOO), along with many others, to find a people that they can connect with.
All of this is in a trial-and-error phase and is being shaken out as we talk. The key remaining thing that needs to be dealt with, for it to truly take off, is for it to be able to be connected to or transferred to the television screen. Once this is taken care of, it will explode beyond what most people at this time could imagine.
It still boggles the mind when you see mainstream TV and movie studios and cable companies fighting over the a la carte issue when it's already happening online...and will soon be on a TV near you.
If you're one of those looking to find your "tribe," here's some free advice: Get your stuff up on the huge sites as a way of finding people that have a deep interest in what it is you're doing.
The thing that will make you successful though, is either to have your own site that people can visit from there, that goes much deeper into what you represent, or better yet, find a true fan site and offer any type of material they want to give them the tools and information to spread the word; just don't try to take control.
