
Time Warner (TWX) remained the No. 1 media company in America with gross revenues of $33.73 billion for 2005, up by almost 1 percent from 2004. Most of its growth was fueled by its internet and cable divisions, according to AdAge.
Comcast took over second place as they came in with $22.08 billion for the year, overcoming Viacom, who has split into two companies this year with CBS Corp. Even together Comcast would have still been in the second postion. Viacom was number 9 with $8.25 billion and CBS Corp. came in at 7th with $11.80 billion.
The top 100 leading media companies' revenues reached $268B in 2005. This went beyond television, movies and the internet to any company that provided information and entertainment that had and advertising strategy as its business model. Magazines were considered in the numbers.
Revenue from movies basically had no growth as they went up only 0.3% to a total of $19.27 billion in U.S. revenue.
