With the season of scare upon us, it was appropriate for the second installment of The Grudge 2 to take in the No. 1 spot for the weekend. Its take for the first weekend was $22 million. While this isn't too bad, it is far below the original "Grudge," which opened at almost 40 million about two years ago.
The Departed, did good for its second time around, as it took in a healthy $18,675,000. Dropping only 31% in its second week, has to make Martin Scorsese happy as it has now taken in $56.6 million in only 10 days.
The Political comedy Man of the Year, starring Robin Williams, debuted in the No. 3 position with an estimated $12,550,000. While critics haven't like this one too much, the lack of comedy fare gives this a chance to do a little better than it may have otherwise.
One unusual offering for the weekend that took up the No. 9 spot was One Night with the King, a film directed toward Christian audiences. It was released in 909 theaters and did a respectable $4,759 per site.
