
With the scary season upon us, scratching that inevitable itch to get a little horror film watching in has proven to be highly successful; Saw III delivered on that demand as it came in No. 1 in the box offic by a huge margin over the weekend. It was the largest opening of the three Saw movies to date.
The film took in an estimated $34.3 million, making it the best R-rated film debut in over 2 years.
Martin Scorsese's hit The Departed, remained in second place for the third weekend in a row, taking in another $9.8 million during its fourth weekend. It dropped only by 27%, a strong hold for its fourth weekend showing. It has now taken in over $91 million total.
The Prestige dropped from first to third place in its second weekend with a $9.6 million showing. Its total take over its ten day release is $28.8 million. It's still averaging around $4,220 per theater.
