Contrary to other music categories, country music has had a strong year with a 17.7 percent increase in album sales in the first half of 2006 - the largest increase of any music genre. That's impressive when overall U.S. album sales are down for the year.
Wisely they're not sitting around resting and enjoying the success. The Country Music Association (CMA) has said that there are no existing studies on the Hispanic listening habits as it relates to country music.
As a result of that lack of information, they have formed a task force to study this very thing.
Concerning this issue one writer says:
"After all, many Hispanics in the United States, especially Mexicans, already love norteño, a traditional sound that sprang from the rural experience of northern Mexico. But could these norteño fans also be interested in the fiddles and steel guitars of country music?"
Jeff Walker, chair of the Hispanic task force said that this is nothing more than country music seeing what type of potential the Hispanic market offers.
With the Hispanic market in the U.S. projected to have the buying power of two-thirds of China in a few short years, any business should be thoroughly checking out this market.
