Leichtman Research Group reveals that video-on-demand is now in 25 million digital cable homes. Of all digital cable subscribers, 60% have used the VOD feature; this is an increase of 25 percent from two years ago.
They also estimate that under 4 percent of TV viewing in the United States is from VOD or recorded DVR programs. Still, that's up from around 2 percent only a year ago.
Another large growth area is the number of DVRs used as now 12 percent of US households now own a DVR - an increase from 3 percent 2 years ago.
The LRG research also revealed that the number of weekly VOD movies
or programs ordered has increased by 33 percent over the last year, to almost 5 a week.
The trend will continue and by 2010 it is expected that over 50 million American households will own a DVR and over 40 million have VOD options from their cable providers.
This of course only gives part of the story, as it doesn't measure any of the online VOD activity.
