Paramount has confirmed that it's signed Eddie Murphy to continue his role as Axel Foley in the upcoming fourth installment of the Beverly Hills Cop story.
While the first two pictures did pretty well, this try isn't a guarantee this time around, as the third film many of you probably remember, didn't capture the imaginations of fans at all, only taking in a paltry $44 million in the domestic market.
Lorenzo de Bonaventura has been tagged as the producer by Paramount, and is in the process of putting the production team together. As of now there has been no director chosen for the project.
Talking to Daily Variety, de Bonaventura said: "Axel Foley is one of the great action-comedy characters, a character that Eddie loves. I'm lucky enough to help bring it back, this genre is missing from the landscape."
Murphy is keeping busy as he in the soon-to-be-released Broadway musical adaptation of Dreamgirls, coming out on Dec. 15.
He will also be in a comedy called Norbit, to be released in February, along with his continuing involvement with the Shrek franchise, playing Donkey in the upcoming movie and half-hour TV special.
Murphy and girlfriend Melanie Brown, an ex-spice girl, are expecting a child early next year.
