Starz, LLC has announced that they are forming a new studio called Overture Films. The goal of the company is to offer between 8 to 12 full-length films a year; whether they produce them or buy them.
One of the goals, according to Starz, is to build strong relationships with film-makers and encourage them to pioneer new territory and take some creative risks.
Chief Executive Officer Chris McGurk said, "At our studio the creative
talent will be central not just in making the films but in helping to develop and execute the marketing and promotional campaigns, including the Internet. Overture Films will embrace and empower talent as true partners in the entire process of making and distributing films."
They plan on producing their own original content on about 60 percent of the films and purchasing the rest to distribute.
Overture will staff the company with around 70 people. The company will also keep their film production or acquistions costs lower than $30 million for each project.
McGurk will report directly to Robert B. Clasen, chairman and CEO of Starz, LLC. which is a division of Liberty Media Corp. (LCAPA).
