BitTorrent Inc., in a move to become a larger competitor, has acquired µTorrent, another file-sharing application company.
This is a bid to increase its presence in the online content business. They've been moving that direction in the last couple of months, with content distribution deals with a number of movie and television studios, including MTV Networks (VIA) and 20th Century Fox (NWS-A).
BitTorrent said that with the acquisition of µTorrent, the company will have a user base of about 135 million. They will also merge the optimization and other features o
f µTorrent's software into their own.
The main service of BitTorrent is its software that moves large files at high speeds, making it easier and quicker to download or move. They have a tough uphill battle to become a player in a fragmenting industry.
