With the dismal failure of Hollywood and the Gaming industry attempting to merge their two products together, it's a wonder that they keep trying to do it.
A lot of people many not know that the gaming industry is far greater in size than the Hollywood studios, as far as revenue goes, and have a lot less to gain from the continuing attempts at trying to make this strange alliance work.
Not only have the films been horrible, but when gaming companies take films and
attempt to make them into games, overall that has failed as well.
Joseph Staten of Bungie Studios said concerning the recent partnership between Microsoft and Peter Jackson, "We've got some people together who are going to figure out how to take the best lessons of filmic storytelling and the best lessons of games storytelling and create something which is a little of both and yet better than either, we don't know what it's going to look like yet. But it's going to be a lot of fun to find out."
When you listen to what Staten says, it's another way of saying they have no idea of how to go about making it work. Just adding someone from successful filmmaking like Jackson adds no guarantee of anything. You've got to know where you want to go before you can take steps to get there.
The attempted marriage between these two diverse entertainment industries, at this time, are like oil and water, they're just not mixing.
With the gaming industry thriving, and online gaming growing tremendously, what reason do they want to keep playing with Hollywood who aren't bringing anything to the partnership? The gaming industry is going to grow with or without them.
If they keep on trying to force this to work, they may just be dragged down to the mediocre level that Hollywood as existed at for such quite a long time.
