Matt Damon has said that if he was offered the part as a young Captain Kirk in the next Star Trek movie, he would take the part if he liked the script.
William Shatner is seemingly unable to come to grips with anybody continuing the "Kirk" role as he believes it is "uncastable," although he has been reported to have changed his mind and is encouraging Damon in the role if he's offered it.
Damon, told Sci-Fi Wire, "I heard that (rumour). I think JJ Abrams or somebody said that at a press junket or something, and it got picked up. If the script was good, I'd do it."
The Internet has been the main catalyst of the story gaining legs as rumors have been floating all over that Damon is being considered for the part and would make a great young Kirk.
As Damon said, if the script was right, he would take it. I agree with the scripting side of it obviously. Damon could be a great Kirk, and his acting ability speaks for itself. Hopefully there will be a script offered that makes him want to do it. If that's the case, it should be a great movie to watch, which won't disappoint even the most diehard "Trek" fan.
