
News Corp. has increased its stake in the National Geographic Channel through purchasing 25% stakes that currently run the international operations of the company on cable TV. Currently the 25 percent stakes are owned by NBC Universal (GE).
In a regulatory filing, News Corp. (NWS) revealed that it was going to buy stakes in NGC Network International and NGC Network (UK) for an undisclosed sum.
For NGC Network International, it will increase News Corp.'s stake to 75 percent of the company. National Geographic Television will retain the last 25 percent.
The UK division of NGC will be owned by News Corp. with 25 percent, National Geographic with 25 percent, and BSkyB, a British satellite provider, will own the other 50 percent.
