
Sony continues on its record-breaking year as they scored big again, getting their 13th No. 1 release for the year in Will Smith and "The Pursuit of Happyness." It brings Sony's 2006 box office receipts to $1.573 domestically - setting a new U.S. box office record for one year.
The film opened with an estimated $27 million in sales, allowing it to win handily over its nearest competitor.
Coming in second for the week was the fantasy film Eragon from Fox, debuting at $23.6 million, and appealing largely to the young male market.
On the other side, Charlotte's web, although opening much weaker, still came in at No. 3 with a respectable $12 million for the weekend. It appeals largely to the young female market.
