With viewership of "Lost" dropping 14 percent this year, ABC (DIS) executives have been struggling to come up with a solution to the complicated show that will keep existing fans while drawing back fans that have left.
Executive producer Damon Lindelof said concerning fans that have fled the show that "We want them back. We really believe in the show and the audience we're getting. But if we write towards getting them back, we may alienate the audience that we already have."
One problem they have with growth for the series is that the storyline is so involved and multifaceted that those that may want to take a look have no idea what's happening.
Another problem with their existing fans is that they've complained heavily about when the show is temporarily stopped and then the reruns come. The fans say that it disrupts their concentration on the continuing story.
As a result it is said that next year they will probably run all 22 episodes consecutively, rather than break them up.
ABC says that they think what will help the most will be to set a date for the series to end. They think that this will help the writers to lay out a conclusion to the story that they can reverse engineer and writer clearer episodes for the viewers.
They are also going to get back to the beach and include far more cast members as some critics said that in the first six episodes this year they focused far too much on Jack, Kate and Sawyer, while leaving out some of the other interesting characters in the show.
When the series picks up again next month, producers say that this will be changed right away as the show will focus more on the beach right away.
