President of ABC Entertainment, Stephen McPherson said during the Television Critics Association's meeting that he will be changing some of the mix of their current comedy, dramas and procedural programming in the upcoming season, according Media Daily News.
"There is so much good drama on," said McPherson. You are asking a lot of the audience. We'll have more stuff that is procedural programming--more closed-ended stuff."
The emphasis seems to be more on comedy, rather than on adding drama in their new season. McPherson said that he believes there's more room for comedy and that he doesn't consider the sitcom dead. Although he added that in the
development stage comedy and drama shows will be at a "50-50 mix."
ABC (DIS) has also chosen not to put their top-performing reality show "Dancing with the Stars," in direct competition with Fox (NWS) blockbuster "American Idol." They are moving "Stars" to a Monday night slot from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. They will broadcast the results show on Tuesday at 9 p.m.

Even with not going against "Idol" they will eventually run into the other Fox behemoth in "24." McPherson said that he didn't think that this would be an issue because of "24" being an action show.
Some of the shows that were dropped by ABC may be given another try on the prime-time schedule. Shows like "The Nine, "Daybreak" and "Six Degrees" may be added again in the spring.
McPherson said that he's trying to give shows a little longer try on the network to encourage his producers and seeing if a little more air time will help them to catch on with the audience.
As we talked about in the last post concerning "Lost," they're looking at probably running in without breaks when it's reinstated into the lineup.
