After only four episodes, the CBS (CBS-A) reality show “Armed & Famous” wasn't, as the network decided to drop it. The show was able to garner some publicity through its controversial decision to have the five lesser-known celebrities carry guns as reserve officers of the Muncie Police Department. It really never had much of a chance being put opposite "American Idol."
The show which included “CHiPs” star Erik Estrada, singer La Toya Jackson and Jack Osbourne originally was planned for seven episodes. The first week it aired two episodes and ended up in 44th place in the ratings. The next episode though dropped to the 70th place on January 17, which was probably the deciding factor in axing it.
“It came down to ratings,” CBS spokesman Chris Ender said Monday. “Going up against ‘American Idol’ was a tall task for the show.”
VH1 has committed to airing at least the next episode of the show, along with the previously broadcast four at 5 p.m. on Saturday. They had also planned on showing the final two installments of the show if they were completed.
