New releases took the top two spots at the box office this weekend with the comedy spoof "Epic Movie" taking the top honors. The film which makes fun of a bunch of films, some MTV shows and Paris Hilton finished up with $19.2 million; pretty much recouping the costs of production for 20th Century Fox (NWS).
The debut for "Smokin' Aces," a violent comedy, brought in respectable numbers as well, garnering $14.3 million. That was good news for Universal Pictures as well; almost covering production costs for the first weekend.
Finishing in third for the weekend was the long-lasting "Night of the Museum," finishing strong for its sixth week, taking in $9.5 million, bringing its total to $217 million.
