In an effort to improve communication across divisions and create multi-year deals, CBS (CBS) has created a new division called "CBS Sports Properties Group."
CBS has picked Chris Simko to head up the new division. He was the senior vice president of sports sales and marketing of CBS Sports, and that will still be his title
now.
Simko said: "The creation of CBS Sports Properties Group was to make sure that internally, with all our divisions, we are really talking with each other. What is important is to create not just short [campaign] flights for advertisers, but multi-year deals."
The move was initiated because of the increasing cross-platform strategies that media companies have. Not only does CBS have its network stations, but the cable sports network CSTV; the local media group named R.I.O.T (radio, local Internet, outdoor and local television), CBS SportLine.com and CBS Interactive.
With media not only being fragmented across industries, but even within individual companies, there will be an increasing move toward having in-house divisions created that will help to bring all the parts together as they related to marketing across the various platforms.
