
The coverage of the Fox News Channel of President Bush's State of the Union Address was almost twice that of its nearest rival CNN. For the night they averaged 4.56 million total viewers and reaching 1.41 million of adults aged 25-54.
For CNN during the entirety of the Presidents speech, they had an average of 2.33 million viewers and 735,000 adults in the 25-54 demographic. MSNBC finished 3rd averaging 1.54 million viewers with those numbering in the 25-54 demo at 679,000.
With consideration of coverage analyzing the speech, Fox News averaged 3.9
million between 9-11 p.m with 1.17 in the 25-54 demo. CNN was second again with 2.12 million viewers and 668,000 in the 25-54 age group. Third again during the post-speech analysis was MSNBC with 751,000 average viewers.
MSNBC tried to put a positive spin on it by pointing out that its average coverage for the night increased by 259 percent over its average for the fouth quarter of 2006, according to Nielsen Media Research.
