Originally saying that the role for playing Tony Stark's (Iron Man) secretary Virginia "Pepper" Potts in the upcoming Marvel Entertainment (MVL) project should be like Gwyneth Paltrow, they decided rather than getting someone "like" her, why not try to get her; the studio decided to do just that, and she will be starring alongside Robert Downey Jr. as a result.
"Gwyneth is the embodiment of a leading leady," Kevin Feige, president of production for Marvel Studios, said. "She brings intelligence, poise and an incredible range of talent to this role.
"We've talked to our prototype for Pepper, and we kept mentioning 'someone like Gwyneth Paltrow,' and it was relatively recently that it came to our attention that maybe we should go to Gwyneth."
Rounding out the major characters in the cast is Terrence Howard who will be playing Stark's best friend, Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes. Production should begin in Los Angeles in March and is scheduled for a May 2, 2008 release.
