
The final weekend of the 2006 box-office finished strong with a 10% increase over last years box-office finish. Still for the year, revenue grew by 4.9% over 2006 to $9.4 billion, credited to a 3.3% increase in attendance and increased ticket prices. Even with the modest growth, they weren't able to reach the levels of the 2004 season.
For the weekend, the Fox hit "Night at the Museum" finished up in first place with an estimated 36.7 million. Over its 11 days in theaters it has already reached a strong $125.8 million in sales.
The true life success story "The Pursuit of Happyness" retained its second-place slot for the weekend, taking in $19.3 million. In its 18 days since release it has taken in $103.7 million.
The third place finisher for the final weekend of 2006 was "Dreamgirls." They moved up to third place in their first complete weekend, grossing an estimated $14.1 million for the three days.
