EMI finally got some good news as jazz vocalist superstar Norah Jones released what critics are calling her best album she's ever done. Her new release, called "Not Too Late," was so popular with online retailer Amazon.com (AMZN) that it received the most pre-orders for albums in its history. On the Amazon.com.uk music chart it is also at No. 1.
It was also a huge seller for iTunes (AAPL), according to the site, with sales reaching No. 1 in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. It is released in the U.S. on Tuesday.
"Amazon.com continues to be one of our top retailers for Norah Jones' work," Saul Shapiro, senior vice president of sales for Blue Note said in a statement. "We were very pleased that Amazon's customers were so enthusiastic once again about Norah's unique, intimate sound."
EMI had hoped that the album would do great as they had a horrible first half of their fiscal year, and are counting on Jones and several other artists to excel during the second half. The company recently issued a profit warning in early January. They got rid of two of their executives after poorer than expected Christmas sales.
Jones other releases were "Come Away with Me" in 2002 and "Feels Like Home" in 2004, which were also chart-toppers.
