The recent season rankings of the most-watched shows using a DVR confirmed that sporting events and reality shows are for the most part viewed live. Another finding was that shows with continuing story lines also ranked high on DVR viewing.
Another result for live television was that the few shows like ABC's (DIS) "Desperate Housewives" had low DVR viewership as people made a point to watch it live. The reason for that I think is that it's the water cooler or call-your-friend-and-talk-about-it type of show. Most people watch it so they can talk about it that night or the next day with their friends.
In the 18- to-49 demographic, NBC's (GE) "The Office was the most DVR watched show for the week following the broadcast, with 16% of viewers watching via their DVRs.
"The OC" on Fox (NWS) was the second most-watched DVR show in the 18- to-49 demographic with a 15% average viewing with DVRs.
Only around 1% of NBC's "Sunday Night Football" viewers in the 18- to-49 grouping used a DVR to watch the game.
