One of Bollywood's most respected music directors, O.P. Nayyar, died on Sunday of a heart attack at 81 years of age. He was most well-known for putting out popular songs in the 1950s and 1960s.
According to the Press Trust of India, Nayyar implemented a style that included Punjabi rhythms in his music. A number of leading singers owe their stardom to Nayyar as well. One especially pointed out is Asha Bhosle.
Indian film director Mahesh Bhatt described Nayyar as "an audacious man who was a king in his time."
Those who have known Nayyar or known of him, know that he never went anywhere without his unique black felt hat and was always dressed in white.
While he had his first professional break in 1949, it wasn't until the 1950s that he became popular from his music in films like Baaz, Aar Paar, Mr and Mrs '55 and Cham Chama Cham.
After not being heard from in quite a while, the maestro became a hit again with Zid and the Salman Khan-Karisma Kapoor and the type of music that was his trademark style.
