While NBC (GE) hasn't been willing to name a successor to Conan O'Brien's probable move to 11:30 p.m. in 2009, Carson Daly is hoping that he is the one picked to fill that slot. Last Call With Carson Daly has been working in the 1:30 a.m. slot for five years now. He said that he hasn't officially talked to the network about it yet.
Daly added that he isn't bitter in any way that NBC didn't name him O'Brien's
successor when they announced that O'Brien was going to fill Jay Leno's position on The Tonight Show. Rather, he's appreciative that he's been given a chance saying, "I would be presumptuous to have an opinion on that. I’m lucky I’m on the air."
For Daly, he wants to continue to improve "Last Call," which has added a larger amount of comedy to the show, to supplement the guests and music.
He has also recently initiated a concept to NBC that would be called "It's Your Show, which would target the growing popularity of user-generated content that continues to increase in popularity.
For the most part Daly wants to focus on doing what he's doing even better, while positioning himself to be ready if the call comes for him to move into the 12:30 slot. It's refreshing to see someone in the business that is thankful, working hard and coming up with new ideas, even if what he ultimately wants isn't guaranteed to be rewarded.
