In response to a lawsuit filed by Time Warner (TWX) in December, a U.S. court ordered satellite television provider DirecTV (DTV) to stop advertisements that said that their service was better than what Time Warner offered.
The ad, which had former Star Trek actor William Shatner in it along with Jessica Simpson, was offered on air during December 2006 and January 2007. It implied that the quality of Time Warner's high-definition programming wasn't near as good as theirs.
In response Time Warner filed the lawsuit saying that the DirecTV campaign was in
reality "false advertising and deceptive business practices."
Judge Laura Swain issued an injunction against DirecTV which forbids them from running the ads anymore. They were also required to remove any other advertisements of the same type that may be running on other media platforms.
