Lea Thompson has been pegged to start in the upcoming Lifetime movie "A Life Interrupted," where she'll portray Debbie Smith, who survived a rape and fought for the passage of anti-rape legislation that was meant to be used to get rid of the huge backlog of untested DNA kits.
What motivated a lot of this after Smith went through her rape kit test, she waited six years before her rapist was identified, only then did she find out that he had been incarcerated for almost the whole time that she had been in fear that he would return. Debbie and her husband have a Web site showing how they can help with these issues.
Lifetime launched Lifetime's "Emmy-winning campaign My Lifetime Commitment: End Violence Against Women," seven years ago, and this movie will be "the centerpiece" of the campaign, according to Reuters.
Lea Thompson was the young "mom" in the "Back to the Future" trilogy and also starred in "Caroline in the City" and "For the People." Her most recent appearance was in the "Celebrity Duets" reality competition on Fox (NWS-A).
The movie will be seen on Lifetime at 9 p.m. on April 23.
