If nothing else, this new partnership between the Sci Fi Channel, Richard Branson and Virgin comics won't be boring. In an announcement they said they have partnered to develop content that can be featured in games, the Internet, television and film.
They aren't taking long to get things going either as there are already five new comic book titles in the making to get the business going. It will be called Sci Fi/Virgin Comic. I don't know, I think something about Virgin Galactic should have been included as well. :)
As part of the deal, NBC Universal (GE), the Sci Fi parent, will be offered the first look at anything that comes out of the joint venture. They have as one of their goals to attract the most well-known names in the comic, film and television industry to develop interest in the potential that is represented. The two companies are equal partners in the deal.
There will be an eight-member board that represents all the various revenue outlets for the business; comic books, movies, television, merchandising, gaming, licensing and digital. They will decide which material will be distributed or used across the various platforms.
Diamond Comics will be the distributors of the titles which should be made available this year.
