When singer/songwriter CeU secured a nomination for the Latin Grammy Award for best new artist, she gained the attention of Starbucks and their CD Hear Music initiative. As a result they're teaming up with Six Degrees Records to release their first international album through their "Debut" series.
The album will be self-titled, and has already been released in Brazil. The album will be released on April 3. Other acts that have been chose by Starbucks for their series are Sonya Kitchell, Antigone Rising, and Low Stars.
Starbucks purpose in creating the Hear Music Debut CD series is to find new and upcoming artists that they can showcase and introduce to the general public.
While they are aggressively seeking out Latin acts to offer in their stores, this particular album they say isn't specifically aimed at the latin consumer, even though CeU sings in Portuguese.
"From our perspective, CeU fits more into a category of an artist that has a universal appeal," Starbucks Entertainment president Ken Lombard says. "And we feel all our customers want that."
