Eddie Murphy and his comedy "Norbit," where he plays three completely different roles, came in No. 1 for the weekend box office with an estimated $33.7 million in sales for Dreamworks.
While it has been marketed pretty strongly, MGM-Weinstein's prequel to the "Silence of the Lambs" called "Hannibal Rising" came in second far behind taking in $13.35 million. Not really that surprising to be with the type of film it is. While calling it a thriller, it's really closer to horror in the way it was marketed.
"Because I Said So" rounded out the top three with a total of 9 million.
So far this year it's been disappointing for the studios as it's already fallen behind last years' start, with revenues falling for six straight weekends. It is down by 10.5 percent so far this year in comparision to the same weekend last year.
