At Disney's (DIS) investor conference they announced that "Toy Story 3" is slated for release in 2009, but it won't include former director John Lasseter. Directing it this time around will be Lee Unkrich. It's the first time that there was confirmation that there would be a third "Toy Story."
While this won't be anything new for Unkrich, who has co-directed "Toy Story 2," "Finding Nemo" and "Monsters, Inc., but it will be the first time he will direct himself for Pixar.
Up for an Oscar for "Little Miss Sunshine," Michael Arndt will write the script.
Commenting on the project Lasseter said, "The greatest thing about the merger of the two companies is that the creators of 'Toy Story' 1 and 2 can make 3 with the story that we wanted." Before Disney's merger with Pixar, Disney hadn't planned on receiving input from the Pixar studio.
Lasseter's duties evidently make him too busy to leave his duties as Disney's as chief creative officer of Disney Animation to work directly on specific projects.
