CNBC (GE) is in the early stages of developing an animated series that is based upon the comic strip "CEO Dad," which could land a half-hour series on the network in the fall. The creator of the comic strip is Los Angeles executive recruiter Tom Stern.
The network will create a pilot and cut five one-minute shorts from it to air. Responses from there will probably determine whether the network will reward it with a half-hour series of its own.
"CEO Dad" is about a CEO named Frank Pitt who is struggling to balance his work life with his home life. His family says he's more focused on work than home.
If the series does make it to the small screen, it's not known where it would be slotted, but conjecture is that it will probably be in a primetime position. This is
the first time that CNBC has worked with animation.
According to sources, Bob Balaban, whose credits include "Seinfeld," "Gosford Park" and "A Mighty Wind" is in negotiations to executive produce nad direct the project. Matt Goldman, along with Stern would be credited with being creator/executive producer/writers.
