Disney (DIS) is trying something a little bit different as they have acquired the rights to a graphic novel called, "The Surrogates" which they plan on making into a sci-fi adventure that they've recruited Jonathan Mostow to direct.
Writers on the project will be John Brancato and Michael Ferris who last worked together with Mostow on "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines."
The premise of the story is that humans in the future are made to live in isolation and must communicate vicariously through surrogate robots, hence the name of the novel.
Brancato said that "This is a Philip K. Dick-like futuristic universe, but people who live a second life already on the Internet can relate to some of the themes here."
Producers picked for the project are Todd Lieberman, David Hoberman, Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks. Handelman and Banks, a husband and wife team, originally found the story and talked Lieberman into getting involved.
The original novel is written by Robert Venditti and illustrated by Brett Weldele.
