Elton John announced that he will now make his catalog of over 30 albums available to be downloaded digitally toward the end of this month.
The entire catalog has over 400 tracks on it and will first be made available through Apple (AAPL) iTunes from March 26 through April 30. After that they will be offered through a variety of other download services.
"I've wanted my music to be available for digital download worldwide for some time, but I knew that the entire catalog _ not just the hits _ needed care and attention to be released in this way," said John. "Now that it's happening, I'm pleased for the fans' sake. The world has certainly changed since Philips Records issued my first single on 7-inch vinyl _ 39 years ago this month."
He added that some of the singles would also be released as ringtones for cell phones.
Some of his more popular video clips, such as "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with Kiki Dee will be offered through digital music services.
Vivendi SA's Universal Music Group owns the Elton John back catalog.
