
Jeff Robinov, President of Production at Warner Bros. Pictures, announced that Emile Hirsch has been tapped to play the lead role in the upcoming action movie "Speed Racer."
Concerning the choice Robinov said, "Emile Hirsch is one of today's fastest-rising young stars, which makes him the perfect choice to take the wheel of Speed's Mach 5. He continues to showcase his talents in a variety of challenging roles and we are thrilled to have him in the title role of 'Speed Racer.'"
Included in his film credits are "The Girl Next Door," "The Emperor's Club," "Alpha Dog" and "Lords in Dogtown."
Directing the film will be the Wachowski brothers, who will get together with Joel Silver, who will produce the project, and also worked with them on "V For Vendetta." This will be the first time since the "Matrix" that the brothers have gotten together to both write and direct a movie.
