The Food Network is coming off of its best rating in its history as 2006 was the best year for viewership they've had. They have found a system that is working at this time, so they're responding by offering more to the same fare at similar times, as they have had to drive this success.
What has worked great for the network has been to schedule reality series that are based upon cooking on the weeknights, while maintaining their popular cooking instructional shows during daytime and weekends. They will keep that strategy as they build off of last year.
One new series they're offering this year will be called "The Next Iron Chef of America," where it will gather together professional chefs who will compete to decide who will join the current cast of celebrity chefs. Alton Brown who now hosts the Iron Chef will also host this show as well. The Next Iron Chef of America is set to premiere this fall.
Other shows the Scripps-owned network will offer this year will be another competition centered on regular cooks who will compete to have their recipe chosen as the best in its category. That will be called, "America's Best Recipe."
Those who remember season-two "Next Food Network Star" winner Guy Fieri, will find him crossing America to find a bunch of greasy spoon restaurants. His show is named "April's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
Overall the network will be offering 13 new series this year, reaching across a number of demographics.
