Fox (NWS-A) feels so strongly about their new reality show "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" that they've ordered another 13 episodes of it.
So far the series has been a huge hit with Jeff Foxworthy hosting it. It hasn't been tested yet as it had been given the benefit of following "American Idol's" lead in its first few shows. Still, it's the highest rated new show and the top rated show as
well in the key 18-to-49 demo.
The show is about adults who are asked questions that they probably would have been asked when they were in the 5th grade, and adults sometimes are asked to consult with kid "experts" to see if they choose to agree with their answers to the questions.
It is being put up against some pretty strong competition in the NBC (GE) comedies, CBS' (CBS-A) "Survivor," and ABC's (DIS) "Ugly Betty."
Fox's head of alternative programming Mike Darnell said, "The success was so quick and so great, we felt we should pick up as many episodes as we could as quickly as possible."
According to Fox, the series is the highest-rated premiere on any network in the 18-to-49 demo in about five-and-a-half years.
