Fox Cable Networks announced they are going to offer a new series via their action sports channel, Fuel TV. It will be centered around a group of surfers in Oahu, Hawaii called the Wolfpak who patrol the North Shore of the island.
The network is looking at July 7 for the date to premiere the new show called "The 808." It will start off with seven episodes in his first run.
Kala Alexander is the leader of the group which has appointed themselves to guard native Hawaiians and decide who gets to get on the North Shore. He's appeared in Fox's "North Shore" before and also the film "Blue Crush."
Shon Tomlin, vp programming and development, said the show is different in that "It's really exploring the human side of a very interesting group of individuals. ... You could completely strip out surfing from the show and have a very, very interesting human-interest kind of story that would pull people in who are not interested in surfing at all."
Tomlin added that the series will show a darker side of surfing and not be as "light" as some of the other series on the channel that have been documented.
This is a continuing strategy by Fox for their late-night programming block which they are calling "Unprotected Sets. "808" will air at 10 p.m. on Fridays.
