J.R.R. Tolkien had never finished the book called, "The Children of Hurin." His son Christopher undertook the taks and after 30 years of taking the drafts his father left him, completed the work. Now it's reportedly about to be released sometime next month, said an AFP report.
The book was started by Tolkien back in 1918, and is expected to be in bookstores on April 17, the Independent reported.
It would be surprising if this isn't a huge hit. Not only the Tolkien factor and it being the last written work connected to him, but it will also include illustrations from artist Alan Lee, who directed the art on "The Return of the King," and won an Oscar for it. Lee has 25 pencil sketches and eight paintings that will be included in the first edition of the book.
The publisher of the work, HarperCollins, desribed the story like this: "an epic story of adventure, tragedy, fellowship and heroism." Obviously a work connected to Tolkien.
Concerning the work, the chairman of the Tolkien Society, Chris Crawshaw said that "Tolkien saw his work as one long history of Middle Earth: from the beginning of creation to the end of the Third Age. The Children of Húrin is an early chapter in that bigger story."
Tolkien's son Christopher also edited the last work of Tolkien: "The Silmarillion," which was published in 1977. J.R.R. Tolkien died in 1971.
