While NBC (GE) has had a number of microsites on NBC.com where you can purchase some full episodes of TV shows, directors cuts and clips, they are now entering into it wholly with a full-blown digital download store. You will be able to buy everything from their "Saturday Night Live" clips to hit shows or series.
At the MultiCultural Media Expo in Los Angeles, Shelli Hill - vice president of video, music and product development for NBC Universal Television Distribution, said that in a short time the company will be providing visitors an online alternative to iTunes. She added that the new service will include all of the NBC Universal Telemundo content spectrum.
All you've got to do is go to the NBC store on the NBC.com site where you can already buy licensed goods and DVDs. The download section will be there as well.
Hill also said that the pricing for single downloadable episodes will be similar to the $1.99 standard set by iTunes, but for purchases of whole seasons there is room to experiment with prices.
"The current pricing structure [for downloads] is not equitable," Hill said, "when a five-minute video and a 74-minute episode of 'Saturday Night Live' each sell for $1.99."
The specific launch date hasn't been released as of this posting.
