A couple of artists who live in New York City have sued NBC Universal (GE) and the creators of their new hit show "Heroes," saying that the network copied their work for the television series.
The husband and wife, Clifton Mallery and Amnau Karam Eele, claim that the creators of the series stole their concept of an artist who could paint the future from an exhibit they had shown in 2004 and 2005.
Evidently they're basing the lawsuit on a couple of people who allegedly identified themselves as writers for the NBC show "Crossing Jordan," - a project which was also developed by "Heroes" creator Tim Kring - who were at an April 2005 exhibition of their work in New York City.
They say that a picture drawn by the character Isaac Mendez on "Heroes," is very similar to their work. Their work depicted the destruction of two landmark buildings in New York City (that's original?) which they said was copied by creators of the show when the Mendez character painted a future of an explosion in New York City.
An NBC spokesman said that it is believed that the suit has no merit, and "We intend to defend it vigorously and expect to prevail."
